Somehow I doubt that, but taking it at face value...your kids would still reckon you are an old goat.

Found some more beers. First up, a wheatwine.

Just the one, I think: 12.7%abv. The beer is a bit fizzier than normal for a craft beer, needs the extra fizz to balance the big body and alcohol of the wheatwine.

Poured darker than I thought it would and despite the wheat—piss poor head retention, to be expected with that huge alcohol content.

Aroma: almost licorice, weird considering hardly any roast malts.

Flavor: citrusy. Not much flavor left in the back of the mouth. Some acid left mid-palate.

Reading the label a bit more it says blood orange juice has been added.

No yeast in the bottle so not bottle conditioned (would take ages to condition—get fizz—with that much alcohol which is a poison to the yeast.

It is an Australian beer: Hawkers Beer, Reservoir, Vic.

Wow, weird!

Wheatwine class description:
American Wheatwine Ale
Part of the “strong ale” category, the American-Style Wheat Wine Ale is not derived from grapes as its name might suggest. Made with at least 50 percent wheat malt, this full-bodied beer features bready and candy flavors, and finishes with a great deal of malty sweetness. These beers may be oak-aged and sometimes have small amounts of darker malts added.
https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/styles/60/

Candy flavor I can detect. I think a lot of wheatwines have more like 70% wheat malt.

Re the oak aging, the label says “age[d] in aquavit barrels.”

That's interesting. I don't think I've ever had wheatwine beer. Do you like it?

Dunno. Overpowering impression: fucking weird! Then again, never had a wheatwine before. Would not say it was awful or anything, weird! :roll :bgrin

Will look for another beer by Hawkers in a few days, see how that goes.

Try it. I can get it, and I'm going to in the future to see what it's like.

Nitrogen head—a widget with nitrogen is put in bottle or can, when you open it the nitrogen rushes out of solution giving what to me is a fake head on the stout.

Nothing wrong with a Guinness apart from the nitrogen widget and it is low alcohol, 3.5%. 3% in Ireland.
