Long Memory

We did not forget ... and we didn't take New Year's Day off.

U.S. forces carried out an airstrike in Yemen on New Year’s Day targeting an Al Qaeda operative suspected of being involved in the deadly 2000 attack on the USS Cole, a military official confirmed Friday.

The offensive maneuver was carried out in the Marib Governate, Yemen, and directed at Jamal al-Badawi, Capt. Bill Urban, U.S. Central Command spokesman, said in a statement.

“We are aware of reports that Jamal al-Badawi was killed in a strike in Yemen,” Urban said. “U.S. forces are still assessing the results of the strike following a deliberate process to confirm his death.”

Al-Badawi is wanted by the U.S. government for his alleged part in the terrorist attack launched nearly 20 years ago against the USS Cole. The attack, which predated the 9/11 terror attacks, left 17 sailors dead.

“Jamal al-Badawi was indicted by a federal grand jury in 2003, charged with 50 counts of various terrorism offenses, including murder of U.S. nationals and murder of U.S. military personnel,” the statement said.

One of the casualties on the Cole was from my wife’s hometown of Ennis, TX. I’m glad they got him. Actually Rice, TX just outside of Ennis.

This news is not new. It's 14 months old.

But I posted it just to say that the U.S. Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) does amazing work. Most of it is classified and may remain classified for decades. But if we could know what they do, and how they do it, it would be absolutely fascinating and by far better than any of the top spy novel fiction writers. What we do know is that operations like this one are intelligence driven. The methods of gaining that intelligence range from high-tech eavesdropping and surveillance to low-tech old fashioned undercover work on the ground, behind enemy lines in some cases, that takes amazing courage and nerve.

We got a taste of that with all the information that came out about the lead-up to the raid on Osama bin Laden's compound. Believe me, this sort unconventional warfare is ongoing. Every day in faraway places, Americans work tirelessly to find, track, and capture or kill our enemies. I hold them all in the highest respect. I'm only sorry that their stories cannot be told because they would be utterly fascinating.

Oct. 30, 2017

WASHINGTON — American commandos captured a suspect in the 2012 attacks in Benghazi, Libya, the Trump administration said on Monday, bringing into custody a second man accused in the terrorist attacks that have been used by Republicans as a political spear against the Obama administration.

The man, Mustafa al-Imam, was caught on Sunday in the area of Misurata, Libya, brought aboard a United States warship and will be taken to the United States to face criminal charges, American officials said. Four Americans, including Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, were killed in the bloody September 2012 assaults at a diplomatic compound and a C.I.A. base a mile away that came under heavy fire. More than a dozen people have been charged, and one is standing trial.

“To the families of these fallen heroes: I want you to know that your loved ones are not forgotten, and they will never be forgotten,” President Trump said in a statement on Monday. “Our memory is deep and our reach is long, and we will not rest in our efforts to find and bring the perpetrators of the heinous attacks in Benghazi to justice.”

The team of commandos — members of the Navy SEAL team 6 and the F.B.I.’s Hostage Rescue Team — surprised Mr. Imam, several officials said. One said Mr. Imam was subdued. Details about the operation were limited, but the officials said that plans to apprehend him had been in the works for months as the American military waited for authorization from the White House.

Well ya see, here's where I have an itch. On what basis does the West get to actually decide and ultimately determine what is best for people whose culture we have no experience with, and who have been having their domestics for centuries? I reckon the US would be far better off without Trump, but having expressed that opinion, there the matter ends. I am not about to mobilise a small elite force of Australians to infiltrate the US to knock him off.

Aussie,

They didn't knock off a head of state. They knocked off a terrorist who helped kill 17 U.S. sailors. He was a part of the organization that carried out the 9/11 attacks.

Every time the U.S. knocks off one of these savages, it does the world a favor. And it reminds them not to fuck with us.

He was an arsehole I am sure, but he was obviously a local political activist and he was assassinated.

They knocked off a terrorist who helped kill 17 U.S. sailors.

Where were those 17 US sailors?

He was a part of the organization that carried out the 9/11 attacks.

So was the House of Saud with whom Trump and the US is in cahoots.

The Saudis expelled Osama bin Laden in the 1990s and revoked his citizenship. OBL went to Sudan. When Sudan no longer would allow him to stay, the Saudis refused to accept him, so he went to Afghanistan. OBL had burned his bridges and was persona non grata as far as the Saudi government was concerned. Did individual Saudis continue to support him? Perhaps.

Yes....in Yemen. The USS Cole.

I want the West OUT of Arabia which is for Arabs. While we keep poking those Arab bears they will poke our bears.....including like 9/11.

The West MUST get the farque out of the Middle East. Israel must fend for itself or take my offer of Tasmania.

You guys need to remember that in 2000 the U.S. was not at war with any muslim nation, including Yemen. The ship was not attacking Yemen; it was merely refueling at a port with the permission of the Yemeni government.

Now if you don't like western culture or U.S. foreign policy, that does not give you the right to commit mass murder against people who are not harming you. And Osama bin Laden declared war on the U.S. long before we declared war on him. He asked for this fight, and he got it.

The United States is not going to have its foreign policy dictated to her by uncivilized savages from the 7th Century. To hell with that.

May our bombs find their targets, and may our bullets be well-aimed.

The West has too much invested in the ME to move out. Their invasions have always been a farce on the pretense that they're fighting terrorism when in actual fact it's all about maintaining control of oil, gas and their other investments. I would think the 9/11 attack was payback for the devastation left over from the Gulf War. In every invasion innocent people lose their lives, their homes and their livelihood. Of course minority groups want payback. Those responsible for the 9/11 attack should have had a little foresight into what this act would ultimately cost their people.

I'm not sure about Trump anymore and whether he's hated as much as the media infers. Americans love their senile old presidents, although they pretend otherwise. Trump is a megalomaniac and has always gotten his own way. The transition from entrepreneur to President would have been easy for him. He hasn't even bothered to change his MO and is just continuing as he always has. It's worked in the past for him and there's no reason it won't ultimately work now. He'll probably stay President until someone assassinates him.

As far as Israel goes - why would they move to Tasmania? As a whole they are super intelligent and anyone with influence in American politics has a mother or children living in Israel. Israel can do whatever they want and regardless of their acts of immorality in our eyes - no-one is going to stop them now. The Jews are the most powerful people in the world as well as the wealthiest - a winning formula.

Because as World Dictator, I would command the West that it no longer provide any support of any kind to the State of Israel until it moves to Tasmania. Israel is full of non Arab Jews who have moved there from Europe and the US. It is an artificially created State in the wrong place. Its neighbours want it gone.

What sort of idiot are you, we've spent decades weeding out god nutters in Tas and now less than 10% in Tas believe in god and even less go to church. We've just about got rid of the muslims the idiots in Canberra forced upon us, now there are very few and the next ones to go are the exclusive brethren, JW's and we are working on that. Our crime rates have dropped, church child abuse has dropped as has support for religion. The last thing we need is more low life god nutters here and certainly not jews. The jews are the worst kind of morons on the planet, give them to the yanks, they are just as stupid and deserve them.

Not only are you a biased hypocrite, but also a traitor and after your last prejudicial rant against me whilst allowing your scum of a moderator and others to continue spewing out abuse, you've reveal yourself as a right wing elitist god nutter supporter. You invited your right wing cronies from the USA to join here to get support, now it consists of right wing god nutter idiots, against just as stupid left wing PC drop kicks.

The USA and israel are the worst terrorists on the planet, if it weren't for the huge weapons support the USA give to Israel it would be gone by now. So the problems in the middle east all stem from the USA and jews warmongering, attempted genocide of the local populations removal of governments and controlling oil interests.

The USA twin towers were a result of USA, Saudi and the jews collaboration to create a situation where the USA could invade again and have an excuse to destroy the population and take it over. Ignored by the vast majority, is the fact Saudi and israel are allies and working together.

Ok, so where do we move the Tasmanians to? I need to tell the U.S. Marines where to ship them as soon as the occupation is completed and all resistance has been annihilated.
