Overuse of water and corruption in high places. Specifically—drop in the oxygen content killed the fish.

Overuse for what? Farming? Drinking water? Industry? All of the above?

Growing cotton, and general farming.

Cotton and rice growing, purely for profit growth and not sustainability. This country can't handle the population we have, let alone support water greedy useless industry, which provides nothing to the country other than move our money to multinationals and destruction our environment. No jobs involved, it's mostly all automated and the produce goes out of the country for processing and to feed other countries, which are overcrowded and unable to support their over populated societies.

This is the reality of all our rivers, they are all dying fast and it's the same even in Tas, there are only a couple of rivers not heavily contaminated and dying, they may look good to the touros, but nothing lives in them any more because of chemical pollution from forestry, mining, pollution and human waste.

The logic of ideologues is unfathomable, yet they all continue along the denial trail and shut their eyes to the reality that is rapidity over running them and will destroy our society within a few short years.

I doubt this could make a dent in rivers, but in our stock tanks(ponds stocked with fish), we use solar powered aerators to oxygenate the water. We can fish as needed from the pond and use the pond to water cattle.

Medindee lakes reduced to 2.5% of capacity, not enough oxygen. Maybe the fucking cotton growers can scoop up the dead fish to use as fertiliser.

I use aquaponics to grow my fish and lots of food, no evaporation, no water wastage, controlled and self sufficient system, runs on solar as well. Have 4 dams, they provide irrigation for the paddocks and the water runs back into the dams, the biggest dam is on a permanent creek.

Damn shame.

Any thought given to damming that river? Damming, of course, is a way of conserving water for the dry months.

They dammed it for the cotton and rice growers, so no water gets down the river to towns or other farms and they allow the cotton and rice growers to steal all the water they want, above their allocation and nothing is done.

It is a misuse of a dam to conserve water above the dam for some purpose while destroying the ecosystem below the dam.

Someone's got some explaining to do.

Someone needs to get fired.

Yeh, it's always water problems in Australia!

I don't know why we attempt to grow rice unless we start devloping up North where there is too much water!

We may not agree on all things, but there is no excuse for starving an entire ecosystem of water.

There comes a point when certain human activity has to take second place.
