Oh OH ..Trump wants to delay the Election.

There you go. Honesty. You are going to use a Mail Vote.. for TRUMP. What do you reckon that will be worth...? Will it COUNT.? "cos you'd rather live here ( can't blame you for that) .. you have to vote via a Postal Vote.

According to TRUMP.. Mail votes are suspect, and cannot be trusted.. Don't get THAT myself .. UNLESS..... ??
have a guess
and he'll try to remove
all of them from the counting process.

BY THE WAY, you are saying by your lack of reply to this issue I raised...................... you have no knowledge, it seems, of what happens to your vote, nor how it is counted and accepted as legitimate. How will your postal vote , as we call them here, be counted.? ANY CLUE at all?
This IS a FEDERAL ELECTION, isn't it..?

Surely ( don't call me Shirley) there is a federal electoral body responsible...??

You are on deck Seth.
Do you know how your vote is counted, as valid.?

OOps .. time is fluid.. Seth isn't on deck.
I wonder if Ryder knows.?

Glad you insist on an answer.....I honestly don't know for certain. Because of the Pandemic many States are scrambeling to change their laws because they anticipate a deluge of absentee ballots (many more than ever before) & they are both legally & physically unprepared to deal with that when resources are so strained due to CONVID19.

There are 50 States in the United States of America, & therefore...theoretically...50 different ways the election process is administered. Each State has it's own Constitutional issues to contend with, different local laws on counting ballots, etc....etc....etc. In dealing with Absentee Ballots....Mail-in-Ballots.....each State has it's own way of handling the process of those ballots.....like when the voter must request a ballot, the voting requirements that come into play like why they need to vote by absentee ballot....etc....etc.

Bottom line, the States are unprepared to handle such an undertaking in such short a time.......such reforms can take decades to resolve....not days......Laws need to be changed, & when the legislators are not in session because of the CONVID19 virus, that becomes impossible for those States that will have to change their laws to enable the onslaught.

That's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to all the issues that need to be addressed, & resolved in less than 100 days!

America will never accept the outcome of a hodgepodge, smoke & mirrors, bubblegum & paperclip mail-in election, & IMHO there will be tens of thousands of law suits regarding the outcome if they try, literally taking not days, weeks, or months, but years to resolve!

Voting by mail works when a very small percentage of people take advantage of utilizing the Absentee Ballot Voting System, but such a radical dilemma will be damn impossible.

IMHO......the vote will take place as scheduled.......& voter turnout will probably be very low......many votes will go uncounted.....but a decision will be reached prior to the dates specified in the US Constitution.........what kind of a decision will come is anybodies guess.....we're in uncharted waters.....

Trump has instructed one of his donors - the PMG - to close down post offices and stop all overtime in a bid to hamper the mail-in voting system.

True story, unfortunately.

He's slowly establishing himself as a dictator.

You Americans had better wake up fast.

Oregon has mail-in voting. Pink, once I put my ballot in my mail box, I have no idea whether or not it gets to where it's supposed to get or whether it gets counted.

Wow, 150,000 Americans dead from a pandemic and you will vote for that incompetent again? You expect good government and efficiency from the orange douchebag this time?

What is that definition of insanity?

Seth, what do you think of Trump's mate controlling the postal service now?

He's banning overtime, and even closing some post offices.

Do you think it's a clear case of Trump trying to sabotage postal votes so that if he loses he can say "See, I told you so"?

I haven't looked into it, Greg. Frankly, I've lost a lot of interest in the upcoming election.

How states collect and tally votes is up to the states, not the federal government.

How they are posted is up to the federal postal service.

Trump has appointed one of his donors as postmaster general, and he is now banning overtime and closing some post offices.

That's clearly a tactic to hamper the postal voting system.

You're too smart not to realise that, Set.

It's major corruption aimed at destroying your democracy.

Just looks like it is getting worse and worse. .
It is.

Trump is destroying US democracy at the same time that he kills its citizens at the rate of about 1,000 a day.

He has now said that he won't accept the result of the election if he loses, and that he is prepared to tie up the courts for years if need be.

He's appointed one of his donors as PMG in order to hinder the mail-in voting system.

If he loses in November, it could go two ways:

1. he'll throw the tantrum to end all tantrums and spend the rest of his life in court trying to prove that the election was rigged against him.

2. he'll say that he didn't really want another term, as he had already achieved more than any other president has in the history of the world, so there's no point doing another four years. He's made America great again, and now he's gonna go off and play some golf.

@greggerypeccary The postal service has been operating at a loss for a long time. Email and electronic commerce plus competition from FedEx and other private delivery companies have made major cuts into their business. What's been happening is that they are paying overtime to deliver all the mail every day (except Sunday). They have cut the overtime so that leftover mail from one day is delivered the next day.

Again, whatever. It won't make a bit of difference with the election. Trump will lose and Biden takes over Jan 20th.

@HBS Guy The guy is right. If, for some reason, the election is not complete by inauguration day, Trump's term is still over, and the Speaker of the House becomes President until the election is completed.

That's not going to happen, though.

No Seth, that's not quite right.

The first part is right - if there's no election, Trump stops being POTUS on 20th January.

However, the Speaker will not become POTUS, as her term will be over too.

All House members are up for re-election in November - not just Trump.

Without an election there is no House.

No House = no House Speaker.

If (and yes, we all know it won't happen) there is no election before January 20, the president pro tempore of the Senate - Charles Grassley - will become President.

In normal circumstances yes, it would be the Speaker, but not in this instance.

In this instance, it would be the 'president pro tempore of the Senate'.
