Another mass shooting in the USA ... 9 killed

The expression "recreational weapon" is an oxymoron and a lie.

Killing animals or people for 'enjoyment' cannot be recreation.
I was thinking of recreation in the form of clay shooting , or target practice.
I love firing a weapon and getting my target.. ( long time ago now) but I've never intended to kill any animal.

A weapon is a tool, a tool to either take life, any life, or protect life.....any life, or an object of great importance, like a person's home, or any other property the person who owns it believes it important enough to be worthy of protection.

A firearm is a tool can be used for both taking/defending life & property, or for enjoyment....recreation. Everyone is aware of the Olympics, where people enjoy many sports, & everyone knows people use sports as a form of recreation.......In the Olympics people use firearms for their enjoyment, in many competitions, where people exhibit their skill in using their firearms, from which they derive much pleasure.....So firearms can be used for either taking life, protecting life, or for pleasure when used in various competitions requiring knowledge & skill in the use of firearms.

Therefore, the expression "recreational weapon" is not an oxymoron nor a lie. It is simply a definition, defining the various ways how an object, a tool, can be used....... a few examples being for self-defense against all enemies foreign or domestic, to provide food for the table, or for sport.......many legal endeavors......many legal activities.

This is the best explanation of the 2nd Amendment I've seen.

There is no way that the government could disarm every gun owner in America. So anyone who thinks that they will lose their right to bear arms, or that for some reason this right must be protected, is just delusional. And, would believe that the sky is falling, if told enough times. No right is absolute. And, all rights will in some ways be restricted.

You do not need a fully automatic AK-47 to stop a burglar or a mugger. You don't need a M1 Abrams tank for deer hunting. And, you don't need a suitcase sized minigun for your personal protection. This is not about personal protection based on fear. It is about pure machismo, and males overcompensating.

So why bitch about controlling automatic and high-powered weapons? Aren't the normal weapons to kill humans good enough? Now we have "smart bullets" for sale, to kill humans even more effectively. Really?? I suppose if you give people enough guns, sooner or later they will use them. Everyone is law-abiding, until they're not. Right?

just not theft, gun shows and private sales for bad people
All of that is already against the law. Its illegal for felons to buy or steal a gun from anybody. Just like murder is illegal whether you use a gun, knife, rope, or your bare hands.

I've filled out federal paperwork for every gun I've bought at a gun show. Every gun I've ever sold or given away was after I'd seen their license to carry or a current military ID. That license exempts them from background checks because it is proof of a current state and federal background check. My wife just yesterday flew with a pistol to give to my military son who is moving to the East Coast because this pistol better meets capacity restrictions there than what he currently has to carry.

The SEMI-AUTOMATIC AR-15, about 15+ Million of them in Law-Abiding American hands, have proven themselves as an excellent defensive weapon, as well as fine hunting rifle for those so inclined, besides giving hours of enjoyment & satisfaction on the range or in the yard (wherever it's 'safe' to fire your weapon). They are Americas favorite rifle, & they easily pass the "in common use for lawful purposes like self-defense" test, making them protected by the Second Amendment.

What a deranged person might do with an AR-15 is of no concern. It's already illegal for a medically diagnosed nutjob to own any firearms...... Even though this Rifle has been used a few times for mass murder, the traditional knee jerk measures suggested by the Left wont legislate sanity into their minds & hearts, & an outright ban would only deprive millions upon millions of decent-law abiding American AR-15 owners of their Constitutional Rights, even though they would probably never use one in a criminal manor.

The first amendment was written before radio, television, and the internet. Think about that. The original militia provided their own weapons.

We would have remained 13 individual nations if the first 10 amendments were not included. The people were worried about an overbearing central government. These 10 amendments were included to limit the power of government and convince states to join. How does disarming the public help that?

You ARE wasting your words.

When it comes to Americans and guns, they just don't get it.

It's really very sad to watch.

This appears to be a fake article.
It is most likely a true article.

A very similar article was posted by a researcher on 2019 mass shooters. The post was checked out by Snopes.com. For the purposes of these pictures, "mass shooter" was defined as having shot 4 or more people in one incident. Snopes found that these identities were true. In their analysis, they discuss the different ways in which different organizations define "mass shooting".

It's not a true article.

It does not show all the people who carried out mass shootings in that year.

It only shows a select few.

Don't fall for the bullshit.

In 2019, there were 417 mass shootings in the USA.

How many people do you see in the fake meme?

Bottom line, a few lives taken by a crazed gunman. There will be more, but as already noted, incidents like these very rare.....where four (4) or more people are shot & killed at random.....There have only been 4 incidents....."Mass Shootings"...... so far in 2021. As I said there will be more, but irregardless, it gives Americans absolutely no reason to trade their inalienable Right to Self-Defense in order to temporarily gain an unproven degree of suggested safety via knee jerk laws that will not save lives, but most likely will cost more innocent lives......

MOTHER JONES MASS SHOOTINGS DATA SHEET 1982 thru 2021

Also see MOTHER JONES GUIDE TO MASS SHOOTINGS, where they describe in detail how they track the phenomenon of "Mass Shootings"

I don't get it. Americans and their guns. Any fool can see that the fact they have so many shootings is because they have so many guns but they refuse to accept it.

They actually argue that more guns is the solution.

I can't think of any other reason for this phenomena that pure selfishness. They like their guns and don't want to be told how to play with them. Certainly logic is defied as an explanation.

It really is an extraordinary phenomenon.

And unfortunately, it's a problem that will never go away.

To Americans, guns are like oxygen - they just can not conceive living without them.

In the future more students will be massacred in school shootings, more concert-goers will be executed in large stadiums, and more women & children will be fatally shot in domestic disputes, and Americans (i.e those who vote Republican, mainly) will turn a blind eye to the murders and say that it never would have happened if the victims were all carrying guns.

They truly are insane.

The country is a lost cause.

Schools, concert halls, and stadiums are where guns aren't allowed. Crime is far worse in Democrat districts than Republican districts. Maybe we should ban Democrats.

The Bill of Rights was written to keep government in check. Personal protection is a side benefit. How many millions of people were murdered by their own government after gun confiscation? I'll take my chances armed. Do what you like.

I'm sorry Texan but citing the possible need for armed insurrection against your government is perhaps the most terrifying reason for having guns that i can think of.

Especially considering the Trump reign of terror.

There are a few things that are alarming here.

Firstly, if the recreational use of a firearms means, firing a small missile through a paper target, or to kill animals from a distance, then it is a morbid passtime, and I think you really need to get out more. The handgun was NOT designed for recreational use. Guns were(and still are) only designed to kill, or cause grievous bodily injury, to whatever living thing it hits.

Secondly, it is impossible to discern between who is law abiding, and who will always be law abiding. No one can control the future. Loss of job, marriage, friends, etc., can affect behavior. When the state wanted to stop people with a record/history of domestic violence, from owning a gun, the NRA went berserk. Now wives/husbands and children, must live in fear with their domestic abuser.

And, thirdly, these one-dimensional, overcompensating protectors of gun rights, don't give a shit about the 61% of gun deaths victims from SUICIDE and ACCIDENTS. More than twice as many gun owners kill themselves in America, than in any other country on the planet. I guess this group that represents well over half of all gun death in America, just don't matter as an argument.

This is NOT about protecting your right to bear and own guns. The fact that it is impossible to take guns away from everyone, makes this protection fear mute and academic. What this is about is the restrictions on that right. The State and Government has a duty of care to protect the safety of all Americans. Gun owners only care only about themselves. They simply dismiss the mounting body count, as "them", and not "us".

America is no longer defined by its values(freedoms, equality, opportunity, etc.) anymore. It is defined by its guns, and its willingness to use them all over the world.

So you are saying there is no point where its justified to rebel against your government? Did Germans have the right to take up arms against their government in the 1930s? What about people enslaved in China or Africa? Don't think it could never happen to you.
