Are COVID Passports Coming?

French President Emmanuel Macron said: “I no longer have any intention of sacrificing my life, my time, my freedom and the adolescence of my daughters, as well as their right to study properly, for those who refuse to be vaccinated. This time you stay at home, not us.”

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said:
“Those who refuse vaccines,” he said, “are endangering their health, those around them and the freedom of every Israeli citizen. They are endangering our freedom to work, the freedom of our children to learn and the freedom to hold celebrations with the family. Those who refuse vaccines hurt us all because if all of us were vaccinated, we would all be able to maintain daily life. But if one million Israelis continue to not get vaccinated, this will oblige the eight million others to shut themselves in their homes.

“Therefore, the cabinet decided today that as of 8 August, those who refuse vaccines will not be able to go to the cinema, the theatre, the synagogue, the amusement park, the soccer game or any activity with over 100 people, indoors or out, unless they bring negative results from a coronavirus test, at their expense.”

The rumblings have started here reading into the gist of messages from Canberra & elsewhere.

Are we going to see "COVID Passports" here anytime soon?

What say you?

They are much too eager to force an experimental therapy on us all. The government refuses to consider the rights of those who have beaten the disease and pose very little risk to others. I didn't miss a single day of work during 2020 except when I quarantined.. I traveled and ate out daily to keep America going as an essential worker. The vaccine and the mask seem to be about compliance and control. I choose freedom.

A short time ago I would have said that that will not happen in the U.S. Now I’m not so sure.

I am sensing a divide that is deepening here between the vaccinated and the unvaccinated. The resentment is building, and so I wonder if that won’t happen here someday. If this disruption of our lives and economy and health systems drags on year after year, and 30 or 40 percent of the people refuse to vaccinate, who knows?

FFS, this is why the virus is out of control - you are, quite simply, a selfish moron.

I've never infected anyone, including my 90 year old mother in law who lived with us part time. I test every 8 weeks to confirm I still have antibodies. I've delivered meals and grocery shopped for quarantining friends. I've been nothing but responsible. How exactly am I being selfish?

I guess ignorant is the more appropriate word.

It appears that you know next to nothing about the virus, the vaccines, immunity, and the benefit of masks.

Then again, seeing as you're a member of the Trump cult it's not at all surprising.

No, it’s not a better word. Leave your descriptions of fellow members of the site out of it, and stick to the issue. If you don’t agree with his point of view you can use facts and information to debate him.

How effective is a cloth mask at keeping out a virus? How does oxygen deprivation from wearing a mask long term affect children? When kids are constantly adjusting their masks and putting their hands to their faces, how does that affect the effectiveness of the mask? How does everybody wearing a mask affect the social development of toddlers and their ability to learn to speak and recognize facial expressions?

Tell me about the thousands of people with antibodies who have become superspreaders. I'm sure a few people have gotten sick twice, but the number is negligible. How often have fully vaccinated people gotten sick with covid. About 10% of the fully vaccinated Texas Democrats who fled their duty to go to Washington came down with the virus. Convince me that the vaccine is better than natural immunity. The vaccine only seems to lessen the symptoms and prevent hospitalization. That's a good thing, but it does nothing for me that natural immunity doesn't do.

Tell me how I'm selfish because I won't blindly follow propaganda. Many in my family are vaccinated and if I were in their situation, I would get vaccinated also. I'm not antivaccination and I will never make fun of somebody who WANTS to wear a mask if it makes them feel better. If I'm so ignorant, tell me where I'm wrong.

It's an excellent word.

He is ignorant to the facts surrounding Covid, vaccines, immunity, and masks.

That's not an opinion or an insult - it's just a basic fact.

"ignorant: lacking knowledge or awareness in general;"

See, right there. You're showing your ignorance.

The primary reason for wearing a mask is to protect OTHER people.

It's main function isn't keeping the virus out - it's designed to keep it IN.

"A cloth mask is intended to trap respiratory droplets that are released when the wearer talks, coughs or sneezes."

Thus, your refusal to wear one is extremely selfish.

I don't have the disease. Why should I wear a mask just to make you feel good? And I wear a mask almost every day simply because I like my job. When I am off duty, I guess I'm selfish to avoid oxygen deprivation for no reason. I wear very restrictive PPE for high voltage electrical work and have nearly passed out from oxygen deprivation. I'm very healthy, but that is a valid concern with me. My mother had frequent sinus problems and had a surgery to widen her sinus passages. I have always been a mouth breather, even when I was running marathons 35 years ago. Wearing a mask is very difficult for me and I refuse to wear it unnecessarily.

And yet you haven't told me how I'm ignorant. I could say "You're an ass", for calling me names and I will have given you a valid explanation for why I called you a name, but I didn't call you an ass.

You don't know that.

You could catch it between tests.

Unless you've just taken a test 5 minutes ago and have been given the results, you don't know at this moment if you have the virus.

Thus, your refusal to wear a mask is selfish.

Moreover, your belief that a cloth mask's primary function is to stop the virus getting in is ignorant.

Why haven't we been forced to wear masks our entire lives? We have had thousands die every year from the flu for all of recent history. I'm not going to live my life in fear that I could possibly catch a virus, especially a virus that I have had and frequently test positive for antibodies. If I catch a virus, I will deal with it responsibly as I did last year. Enjoy your lockdowns and restrictions. I won't be participating.

And yet, it's offensive and not necessary to the debate. Your remarks about how masks keep the droplets in are an example of legitimately debating the issue.

Offensive or not, it's accurate.

'Ignorant' means lacking knowledge. Maybe you're thinking of 'arrogant'.

When it comes to marine biology, I'm ignorant.

When it comes to macrame, I'm ignorant.

When it comes to Covid and masks, many people are ignorant.

Not an insult - just a fact.
